How to use ‘Although’ and ‘Though’.

Many a time, while using the clauses ‘although’ and ‘though’, we keep wondering to understand the difference between them. Well, you will be happy to know that both clauses can be used interchangeably.

How can we use it interchangeably?

I went to the office, although I had a very bad headache.

I went to the office, though I had a very bad headache.

Both ‘though’ and ‘although’ are conjuctions, meaning ‘in spite of the fact.’

What is the difference between both of these conjunctions?

One of the main differences between the two conjunctions is that ‘though’ can act as an adverb, whereas ‘although’ cannot.

I love to eat sweets. I don’t like ice cream, though.

My pet dog has a beautiful black colour. It feels very hot during the summer, though.

In both of the above sentences, we cannot use ‘although’ interchangeably.

Subordinate conjunctions ‘although’ and ‘though.’

Both ‘although’ and ‘though’ are subordinate conjuctions used to join a dependent clause to an independent clause.

We reached the party late, although we started early.

Prachi passed the exam, although she didn’t study at all.

People who are unfamiliar with the usage of the above two conjunctions have to practice a lot to understand their usage. In case you want to be safe, try using ‘though’ rather than ‘although’, as the only difference between the two conjunctions is that ‘though’ can sometimes act as an adverb. So whether you are using it as an adverb or conjunction, you are always correct with the usage of the conjunction ‘though.’

Although it seems to be hard, it can be easy with more practice.
